San Antonio, Texas

I really enjoyed my time in San Antonio, Texas. I met a lot of wonderful people and I don’t say that about every place I visit. Southern hospitality really does exist. The people here are friendly whether you are coworkers, neighbors or just passing them on the street. San Antonio has over 1.4 million people in it yet, there is still a kind of small-town-feel to it. The traffic here is horrible but name a big city where traffic isn’t horrible. The people and culture are pleasantly diverse. One can pretty much be whatever they want in this city: a ballet dancer, a big-shot business man, a farmer, a trophy wife, a Mariachi singer… you name it and San Antonio has a place for you. The state itself is giant. One can fit most of Europe in it. The pride and patriotism here is unmatched. Apparently Texas is the only state in American allowed to fly their flag at the same height as our nation’s flag. (Who knew) The state itself however is “constantly trying to kill you” I once joked with my sister. Everything here is poisonous: snakes, bug, spiders, toads, scorpions even caterpillars and if the critters don’t get you the weather will. If it’s not flash flooding a monsoon then it’s 105 degrees of the most stale, stagnant heat I’ve ever experienced. Oh let’s not forget to mention the alligators and the flesh-eating bacteria in the local lakes and rivers. There’s a reason the saying “Texas Tough” exists. I also noted a high level of illiteracy here and the stray dog population was a bit astounding. But all the same, every city has a good and a bad side. Equality is the balance of life. I still really liked San Antonio. The Riverwalk, the Missions, the history, the Mexican food, the Retama Horse Park, the Majestic Theater and so much more. I had a wonderful time in San Antonio would recommend it as a place to visit.

Sea World!

The largest Sea World facility is located here in San Antonio, Texas. It is actually located right behind where I live so of course I had to go check it out.
It was awesome!
There were so many things to see and do. Everything from dolphins, killer whales, roller coasters, aquariums, penguins and even an aquatic acrobatic show.
My favorite part was the Sea Lions and Seals. Sea World has been getting a lot of "bad rep" in the news lately so it has changed quite a bit recently. I still had a fabulous time and would recommend a day trip if you happen to find yourself in the area.

Things that Make Me Smile #5

This was written on the inside cover of a bible I found in the hospital chapel.
There is a big gas station chain in Arizona called Terrible's.
Cracking jokes about "going to the terrible gas station" just never seemed to get old.
Clever :)
If you don't know why this is funny, it's okay, it's an ER thing.
"Careful guys, there be religious folks about."
This was hanging in a bookstore.
Did you get that Dauphnie?
This is the sign you read on the way out of the ER parking lot.
And in Texas, this isn't a joke, it's an actually warning

Springtime in Texas

I never quite understood  the flooding and flash flood dangers I always heard about on the news... until I moved to Texas. Good grief, the flooding here is crazy. Luckily my house is currently parked on a hill and San Antonio has an elaborate drainage and irrigation system in place. If it didn't, all the San Antonioans would have floated away by now.

Um... I think there's a storm coming.
Believe it or not, Dauphnie is actually standing on the sidewalk.
And this is why we love muck boots
Horse shoes being pulled off and never
seen again is not uncommon around here.
(Yet another reason I leave SuperFly barefoot.)

Yay! Going on safari... in Texas?

My parents came to visit me here in San Antonio. It was so good to see them. One of the places I took them to was this awesome little drive-thru safari. It was really fun, even when the Ostrich tried to get us.
