What do you get when you dump 19,000 rubber duckies into the Snake River?
Possibly a new truck.
Every year in August the Idaho Falls, Idaho Rotary Club puts on the Greenbelt Duck Races.
This race starts out with the selling of cute, little, yellow rubber duckies for $5.00 each.
Every duck has a number and every number corresponds to the person who bought it.
Here's how the race works.
The ducks are piled into a giant bin which is attached to a giant crane.
On a specific day at a specific time, these little duckies are dumped into the Snake River.
The ducks then float down the river and over the falls. The first 10 ducks to take the plunge win!
The prizes this year are a follows:
1. 2015 F-150 Pickup truck
2. An ATV Razor
3. Grand Targhee Family Season Ski Pass
4. A $1500 gift certificate from Farr's Jewelry
5. One Jewelry idem donated by Ingram's
6. Five gift certificates from local restaurants each worth $250
7. A $1000 gift certificate from Blacker's
8. a $1000 gift certificate from Sam's Club
9. An original watercolor painting in frame from a local artist
10. A two season golf pass
If you didn't get around to buying a duck, don't worry, there is still plenty to do at the river.
Even the clean-up is fun to watch
and Dauphnie jumped in to help
If you ever find yourself in Idaho Falls, Idaho around the second week of August, come see the duck races.
